MAIL2SMS Email to SMS and voice call

SMS and voice calls by email send.

With Mail2SMS from LOX24, every email becomes an SMS or an audio call. This is the fastest way to extend machines, alarm systems, monitoring tools, or older software with SMS: What an email can send can now also send SMS. Without a new interface, without programming.

  • Every system with email
  • SMS or phone call
  • Two variants
From the email to the SMS
SMTP → SMS
01 · ADDRESS

Set destination address

You enter a LOX24-Mail2SMS address as the recipient. Depending on the variant, the phone number and access data are included in the address or in the text of the email.
02 · SEND

Send an email

Your device or software sends the email as usual via SMTP. You don't need to change anything on your system.
03 · DELIVERY

SMS or call goes out

LOX24 turns text and text messages into an SMS, and if desired, a phone call, and makes it available in seconds.

WHY MAIL2SMS

If an API is too much work

Many devices and older programs cannot handle the REST API, but almost all can send an email. Mail2SMS does just that. It does not build any integration; it simply enters a recipient address.

COMPATIBILITY

Works with any SMTP system

Controls, NAS, routers, monitoring tools, ERP systems or scripts: Everything that can send emails can now also send SMS messages.

Flexible

Two variants for every situation

Whether you can control only the recipient address or also the content of the email: There is a suitable variant for both cases.

CANAL

SMS or phone call

In addition to SMS, you can have the message sent as an audio call; ideal for alarms at night or for landline numbers.

VARIANT A

Everything is contained in the recipient address

The phone number, access, and all options are listed in the address. The subject and text of the email remain free. This is ideal for devices and programs where you cannot influence the content of the email, such as fixed alarm notifications from a control system.

  • The content of the email is up to you; you can choose the subject line, text, or both as SMS.
  • SMS or voice call via the service code text2speech
  • Shipping to an entire group via @email2bulk.lox24.eu
  • Encoding and maximum number of SMS parts are controllable
  • Custom Email2SMS API key, separate from your API key

VARIANT B

Access in the text, message in the subject

The classic variant: You send to the @email2sms.lox24.eu number or to a fixed address. The access details, shipping method and sender are listed in a line in the text, and the message in the subject line. This works if your system can freely format the email text.

  • Short, readable recipient address; the API key is not included in the address
  • Fixed destination address possible; the phone number is then included in the text
  • Sender can be selected freely, up to 11 characters or 15 digits
  • SMS with up to 1,520 characters, automatically concatenated
  • Error email when the tax line is incorrectly set up

COMPARISON

Which variant is suitable for your system?

The rule of thumb: If you can only enter the recipient address, use variant A. If you can customize the subject and text, variant B is often more clear. Both work with the same LOX24 account.

WORTH KNOWING

Details for a clean operation

A few technical points that will help with setup, especially for older devices and mail servers.

DIRECTIONAL GUIDANCE

No redirects

Send the email directly to the Mail2SMS address. The gateway does not process forwarded emails.

FORMAT

Only text instead of HTML

In variant B, the text must be sent as pure text. In Outlook and Thunderbird, the option is „Text Only“.

SIGNS

Hyphens and special characters

Send UTF-8. In variant A, select GSM, Unicode, or automatic recognition via the encoding parameter.

FOR EVER

Costs under control

With max_sms_parts, variant A limits the number of SMS parts a message can consist of. Long alarm messages are thus not expensive.

SENDER

Add sender

In variant A, you select one of up to six pre-saved senders by number. In variant B, you enter the sender directly.

GROUPS

One email, many recipients

Using @email2bulk.lox24.eu and a group ID, an alarm email reaches the entire emergency response team at once.

Security: use your own Email2SMS API key

In variant A, the key is stored in the recipient address and can end up in address books or mail logs. Therefore, use the separate Email2SMS API key from your LOX24 settings. It can be recreated at any time without affecting your other interfaces.

USE CASES

Where Mail2SMS is used

Alarm systems

Report of burglary, fire or sabotage in addition via SMS or voice call.

Laboratory and cold chain

Temperature loggers report deviations before samples or goods suffer damage.

Ticket and workflow tools

Important tickets or approvals trigger an SMS via an email rule.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Mail2SMS

Mail2SMS is an interface from LOX24 that converts emails into SMS or phone calls. You send an email to a special address, and LOX24 converts the content into SMS. For this, your system only needs the ability to send emails.

Option A, where you can only enter the recipient address and the content of the email is pre-defined. Option B, where your system can customize the subject and text. Both work with the same LOX24 account.

Yes, with variant A. Enter the service code in the address text2speech, Then a phone call reads the message out loud.

Yes. With Variant A, you send to a group from your LOX24 address book, via the address …@email2bulk.lox24.eu with the group ID instead of the phone number.

In variant A, you choose it yourself: subject and text; only the subject or only the text. In variant B, the subject becomes the SMS message, the text contains the tax line.

With variant B, up to 1,520 characters. Longer messages are automatically distributed over multiple SMS messages. With variant A, you set the max_sms_parts Fixed how many SMS parts are allowed to be created at most.

The address can appear in mail logs or address books. For variant A, therefore, use the separate Email2SMS API key from LOX24, which you can create again at any time. In variant B, the key is in the text instead of in the address.

Common causes are forwarded emails that the gateway does not process, an HTML text in variant B, or a typing error in the address. In variant B, you receive an error email when the tax line is incorrect.

Yes, in two ways. LOX24 sends answers to Economy SMS messages to Germany and Switzerland to you for free via email. With a dedicated inbound phone number starting at €29 per month, you receive all answers via email, webhook, or in your LOX24 inbox. This way, for example, you can receive an alarm via SMS reply.

The normal prices of the LOX24 price list apply, excluding any additional fees. A text message to Germany costs between 6.9 and 8.0 cents, depending on the shipping method and tariff level.

Preferably via REST API?

If your system can send HTTP requests, the SMS API from LOX24 offers more possibilities, such as delivery reports via webhook.
